The Saudi riyal has been pegged to the US dollar at a fixed 3.75 riyals per dollar since 1986, and that peg has not changed since.
That means the riyal rate against the Syrian pound moves for essentially one reason: a move in the Syrian pound itself. If the number changes, the news is in Damascus, not Riyadh.
Saudi Arabia is one of the largest destinations for Syrian workers in the Gulf, which makes this one of the most frequently checked pairs by expatriates sending salaries home.

Why does the riyal rate change if the riyal itself is fixed?
Because the riyal is pegged to the dollar. When the Syrian pound moves against the dollar, the riyal rate moves by essentially the same amount.

Why is this different from the transfer company's rate?
This is the parallel-market cash rate. Since June 2026 the recipient of a formal remittance may take it in pounds or in foreign currency, depending on what the paying institution has; anything paid in pounds is converted at the official rate.
